Fish Fanatics and the Environment
Sustainability is a word that is used a lot these days – but what does it really mean?
The United Nations in the Bruntland report defined it...
"Development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. A sustainable fishery is one where the target fish populations are judged to be healthy levels. A well managed fishery will ensure that there is a future for the industry and all those who depend on the fisheries for their livelihoods."
Intensive fishing has resulted in diminishing stocks of wild fish in the oceans around the world. The team at Fish Fanatics are constantly looking to source fish from sustainable stocks wherever possible, and actively encourage our customers to think carefully about their fish has come from.
In every case we aim to supply products which, when caught wild, are not contributing to the growing crisis currently threatening the fishing industry.
Organically farmed fish is becoming increasingly more popular and, when fished without effecting the environment, is a viable alternative to wild fish.
